What do we have brewing here?

Not all Bioplastics are created equal.

Granulous is the next generation of biocomposites, made from waste that doesn't turn into waste! Made from brewers spent grains (a waste material from the beverage industry) and a few extra bio based binders.

From the waste of just 16 beers we have enough spent grain to create 1 kg of Granulous. Cheers!

Granulous has been specifically engineered to be completely home compostable! If it gets lost from the waste system and finds itself in nature it will break down into worm food leaving behind zero microplastics.

THE PROCESS

The lifecycle of Granulous is designed and engineered to be the cleanest plastic alternative possible. We have made environmental, CO2 gains along every step of its life from cradle to grave. Or as we like to say from compost to compost. The result is production localised raw material processing close to markets. Reducing CO2 transport emissions and long global supply chains.

  • Material that is plant based are massively reducing Co2 emissions and environmental destruction via relevance on fossil fuel extraction.

At least 40% from brewers spent grains waste material further reducing C02 and the demand on raw and virgin materials

  • Granulous material is designed and tested to short life applications, can last in dishwasher, repeated uses, with low moisture exposure it can last indefinitely. But to be used in products with a foreseeable end life.

Granulous breaks down in a couple of months into worm food in standard ambient temperatures meaning it can decompose in nature, sea, or even your home compost. No need for industrial processes.

  • It only breaks down when exposed to natural microbes and under the right home composting conditions. It has good water retention properties.

WHY WE MADE IT?

Our whole modern world has been built around fossil fuels. They were cheap and convenient . But it came at a cost and the bill keeps coming in. We are all now aware we have just a few years to reduce global heating to below 1C. Failure to do so means death to life as we know it.

Currently plastics are nearly entirely fossil based. This is bad on every step of their journey. Let us help paint the picture.

They are extracted at the destruction of our planets and its environmental ecosystems. The supply chains are long further using more fossil fuels to transport unthinkable amounts of years. They last way longer than the cheap disposable products they are made with. And they don’t break down, instead turning into microplastics pulling every part of our food chain, from the peak of Everest to the deepest ocean crevasse, micro plastics have been found.

Worse still, they have as of 2022 been found in human blood streams and even show to be affecting our hormones and metabolism.

Plastics and their adoption into our systems simply for price battling with no questions asked, is a tragic race to the bottom and is perhaps the biggest single man-made catastrophe in the history of our race. Yet in comparison we are doing so little to turn the tide on this despite knowing what we know. As we like to say at Granulous

“If you know better, do better”

That’s where we came in. Our rules were simple

  1. Real life solution

  2. No micro plastics

  3. Planet before profits
